TEHRAN (IQNA) – Highlighting Hezbollah’s efforts in the fight against the coronavirus in Lebanon, a senior member of the resistance group said it considers serving people a duty.

Sayyed Hashem Safieddine, head of Hezbollah’s executive council, said the efforts have had a positive effect in boosting people’s morale in the fight against COVID-19, Al-Manar TV reported.

He added that Hezbollah’s contributions to the fight against the disease show that all Lebanese can work together to achieve victory over the virus.

Last month, Hezbollah said it had deployed 1,500 doctors, 3,000 nurses and paramedics and 20,000 more activists in a plan to counter the coronavirus pandemic.

“Frontline Islamic Resistance medics are taking part in this plan,” Safieddine said at the time.

Hezbollah had dedicated a Beirut hospital it owns to treating coronavirus patients, rented four disused hospitals, prepared 32 medical centers across Lebanon and laid plans for three field hospitals if needed. It has also rented hotels to be used for quarantine, Safieddine said

Lebanon has so far reported 582 coronavirus cases and 19 deaths.
